Planning for Success

Create the vibrant business you want in 2022 (without the burnout)

“Wherever there is change, and wherever there is uncertainty, there is opportunity.”
– Mark Cuban

Well, our predictions for 2021 were way off target, weren’t they?! After another year of Zoom meetings … finally (maybe) business and life will now start getting back to normal again.

Last year was an “accrual” world because nothing went to plan and your success may have looked very different to what you were imagining or expecting.

So let’s redefine what success looks like in your vibrant business this year!

First, what do we mean by accrual? According to Oxford Languages: “Accrual is the accumulation or increase of something over time, especially payments or benefits”. So if you look at last year, we were “accruing our success” in portions, even if it didn’t feel like that.

Every step you took may not have felt like it was moving you towards your goal, however, it was definitely a step in the right direction.

What did success look like in 2021?

Before you can move forward, you have to look back on the year that was. To get started, look at these three areas:

  • For you: What were your hours, what did your role look like, how much did you draw from the business, where did you go on holiday?
  • For your business: What were your total sales for the year, what did your cash flow look like, what did your growth look like and did you follow your business plan?
  • For your team: What was the culture like, did you show flexibility, what did their salary progression look like, and what perks did your team members receive?

You may not feel like you had much success, so focus on what you can control.

Write all of your findings down … And if you were one of the few who didn’t purchase a puppy, jet ski, or an air fryer – you’re already winning!

Remember to document the positives and record your improvement opportunities so you can set your new year up for even more successes.

What success do you want in 2022?

Now, we are not going to make any promises this year, because 2020 and 2021 came out of left field, but we are forecasting success – and so should you!

One of the ways you can also forecast success is to start looking at what success means for you this year. Here’s how:

  1. Pick three definitions of what success means to you: This could be a dollar amount, a certain material item or even a feeling or a specific outcome.
  2. Write them on a piece of paper: Write down these three definitions of success and really define what they look like and mean to you.
  3. Describe the current roadblocks: What’s getting in your way of achieving these successes. For example, if it is a dollar figure you are wanting to achieve, what can you do to increase your money mindset and your marketing?
  4. Brainstorm how you intend to overcome them: What activities and tasks can you start doing to make these images of success become a reality?

Who’s sailing the ship in your vibrant business?

Are you in control or is your subconscious steering you and your business off course? A good question to ask yourself this year, don’t you think!

Did you know 90 per cent of your decisions and actions are subconscious? And that’s what’s steering your SHIP:

S – Strategies
H – Habits
I – Impulses
P – Physiological control

Only 10 percent of your decisions and actions are considered conscious.

The impulses that HALT your progress and steer your ship off balance happen when you are Hungry, Angry, Lonely and Tired. Meanwhile, to analyse, justify or rationalise why we will or won’t do something comes down to WAR; your Will power, Analytical and Rational responses.

Knowing that, what will you start to change in 2022?

Sailing for success: No room for burnout

When you are sailing your ship to your successes and a vibrant business, you can get overwhelmed, busy and burned out – and ain’t nobody got time for that! Your mental health must come first, but it’s often the thing that people leave until it’s too late. So here are some tips on how to prevent burnout:

  1. Exercise and eat well
  2. Limit screen time
  3. Get enough sleep
  4. Delegate and outsource
  5. Ask for help when you need it
  6. Listen to your intuition and your body
  7. Practice self-care and self-love
